This Week...

Mostly bugfixes this week, including fixes for the 3.3 release. digikam implements EXIF based rotation in image editor. Krita adds gradient support. Koffice can now save styles to OASIS. Security fixes in khtml.
On August 13th, Stephan Kulow wrote to various KDE mailing lists:
I'd like to open HEAD for normal development again with this mail. The final KDE_3_3_0_RELEASE is tagged (beside kde-i18n) and I will start preparing packages. So please be very conservative with backports at this point and notify me for every commit that you consider important enough to redo the packages (I have veto right of course). In case the question arises: HEAD in kde-i18n was open before and the backport rule applies there too (but I got a wild card for vetoing there).
So the next round of development starts. Are we going to see a version 3.4? Or does work start on changes that will lead to KDE 4.0? This question was raised on kde-core-devel in this thread. Thiago Macieira asked if:
are we considering the possibility of a KDE 3.4? Or are we allowed to make binary incompatible changes now, thus cleaning up the code for KDE 4?
The answer isn't clear quite yet. The KDE developers will be meeting at Ludwigsburg (Stuttgart Region), Germany for aKademy where discussions and presumably decisions will be made on how to proceed. I'm sure we will get news very soon.
An announcement from Mark Kretschmann regarding version 1.0.2 of the amaroK audio player:
This version introduces the XINE audio engine. Once again, we extend the choice of supported multimedia backends, making amaroK one of the most versatile media players. XINE provides a modern and reliable decoding library and supports many media formats.

Additionally, this release provides several bugfixes.

=ChangeLog=
  • ADD: xine-engine plugin, audio only.
  • FIX: aRts-engine: Compatibility with newer aRts versions improved.
  • FIX: aRts-engine: Streams sometimes stopping shortly after playback was started. (BR 84417)
  • CHG: Increased stream connect timeout to 12 seconds.
